My Night In L&D

After deciding to call the OB today if the swelling continued or got worse, I ended up calling last night... but not because of swelling.

At around 8pm, my contractions started up again. This time, the nifedipen wasn't doing anything to stop them. They were lasting over a minute and coming about every three minutes. I called Labor and Delivery and they told me to come in and get checked out.

There was some concern when they first checked me because the doctor said it looked like I had started to dilate a little. They couldn't check the "normal" way because of my placenta previa and the risk of bleeding, so they had to check visually. Another doctor looked and said it seemed closed to her.

The concern was over potential bleeding. With my placenta issue, it can start fast and be extreme. She again mentioned the possibility of needing a transfusion or even a hysterectomy. They typed my blood and had a blood bank on standby in case they needed any. If I started bleeding, I'd be rushed for a c-section. However, Harper would have been sent to another hospital because the hospital on post only handles babies delivered after 35 weeks. As of yesterday, I was 34 weeks and 3 days.

This doctor decided to be a bit agressive when it came to stopping my contractions and she put me on Magnesium Sulfate (NOT fun). I was told I'd be staying the night.

The contractions finally did stop for a few hours but then started up again this morning. My OB came in and did an ultrasound to see how long my cervix is. He said that it's long enough that we have a little bit of time.

That's when he gave me my options:
1.) Stay in the hospital until I deliver
2.) Go home and come in twice a week to get evaluated

We both chose the latter.

He also said that because things can happen quickly, he doesn't want to risk me going into labor on my own. When I see him on Friday, we'll be scheduling my c-section. It will be somewhere around 37 weeks. That means, I have TWO WEEKS LEFT! Yikes!!

I am home now and am on nifedipene every three hours until Thursday morning. After that, there's no point in stopping contractions. If they get bad or if I have bleeding or spotting, I go back to L&D. If labor has started or if I am bleeding, I'll go straight to the OR for a c-section. If I'm just spotting, they'll keep me in the hospital until they feel that a c-section is necessary.

So, that's the update here! It was quite an eventful evening and morning!

It's finally started. I've been swelling (can't wear my shoes except for my size-too-big flip flops), but it's getting serious now.

Don't Get Her Name On Anything Just Yet

While Jamey and I are positive about the name Harper, we are considering some minor changes to the middle name. We have a few possibilities that we are considering and don't know when we'll come up with a final decision. Please don't take this as your chance to tell us how horrible the name Channing is (we still may end up using it). Also, this doesn't mean that you get to make suggestions on the middle name. We have several options we are considering. Like I said, you'll know when things are finally certain.

On another note, I went through Harper's clothes the other day and was surprised to find out that we have no dresses for her! She has several multi-piece and one-piece outfits that are ADORABLE, but no dresses yet. So, I'm excited about doing some dress shopping for her.

We went to Old Navy on Friday. We had a "stuff and save" bag that you fill and everything you can fit inside is 20% off. It worked out well for us. They had clearance going and it was tax free weekend, so we ended up getting about $144 worth of clothes for about $47!! I was VERY excited!

Then, Jamey was entering coke codes and got an opportunity to enter a free contest. He won a $100 Visa gift card!!

It couldn't have come at a better time since we just found out that Colin's carseat has been recalled due to a failure in the handle that could cause severe injury to the baby. They have a repair kit that they're sending us, but I would feel better getting a new carseat. So, the free $100 helps a lot!!

I'm definitely "nesting" already and have been organizing like crazy! I want to make sure we have everything we need. It looks like (aside from stuff for nursing and the travel system) we only need cloth diaper stuff and clothes! We're almost ready!!
